Is A Home Security System Necessary?

A business person would be a person of who needs a good Security Camera System, for obvious reasons…...to catch thieves. But, they can also be used to monitor your employees at work. The best area to place a Security Camera is directly behind the cash register and near the front entrance door. You need a good clear close up view of your customers as they come and go, so it can be used for identifying purposes later on. I would also suggest a NVR (Network Video Recorder) System, which has much clearer picture quality, as opposed to the CCTV (Closed Circuit Television). Also, use a color system, instead of a cheaper black and white system. You really want to spend the few extra dollars and purchase a good Security Camera System, that will do the work that it was made to do…..record what is happening, with a good clear view, so you can catch the perpetrator.

Where Is The Best Area To Place A Surveilance Camera?

Place the camera right next to the register, to get a good close up view of would be robbers. Let them see that they are on camera, so the will think twice before stealing from you. This will also serve as the “Money Shot”, that can be used to not only identify the thief, but will make a great piece of evidence for courts. A well placed camera by the front entrance, will also provide a good clear picture of an individual who may have stolen something from another area of your business, but never walked up the counter area. Somehow they have to get in and out, so the entrance door would make the perfect opportunity to catch a good picture of your shoplifter.

You may also consider monitoring your workers. Theft can occur by employees, not just by a physical inventory item, but with your time, which is just as valuable. You can keep the people you have hired from sneaking out early, or taking long unnecessary breaks. Even standing around chatting with their friends and coworkers, or worse yet, playing on their phones or internet. You have employed them at your business for a certain reason, and you don’t want to see your hard earned money being wasted on neglectful behavior. See how they interact with your customers. They should know and be able to see the cameras you have installed, so there should be no excuse.

Other reasons a business owner may consider a good Security Camera System, would be for vandals, or accidents. With the high cost of property and theft insurance, you want to make sure your place is not a victim of vandalism or someone who fakes an accident, in order to cash in on a claim. You can monitor your surrounding parking lot, dumpster and any other out buildings you may have on your property. If a legitimate accident does occur, you also have supporting video recording the incident, which can be used by your insurance company and in court, if needed. Why leave yourself open to potential false claims. For a few hundred dollar investment, you may save yourself thousands of dollars. People will think twice, before trying fraudulent activity, if they see a camera is watching them. Even a few Dummy Cameras strategically placed, will make someone think twice, before trying anything unethical on your business property.

Do I Need A Surveilance System For My Home?

Now we know business people are the first people we think of who need security cameras, but there are more and more home invasions that occur each year. Unscrupulous people break into sheds and garages, stealing your tools and equipment, as well as your vehicle. Many thieves can cause very expensive destruction, while trying to gain entry, or just plain old vandalize your property for fun. With a good Security Camera System, you can catch them in the act. It also serves as a nice identifying tool, to recover your stolen items. Many would be thieves will pass by your home, to look for unprotected property, rather than take the chance and be caught on a home recorded device.

The price of decent do it yourself Home Security Camera Systems are now a great economical option to the expensive, large nationwide security companies that charge monthly fees. You can set up several surveillance cameras in a few strategic locations, and achieve the same results. Many systems are even IP enabled, so you can monitor your cameras right from your phone. This will allow you peace of mind when your are away from your home, or even if your are in your home and you hear a strange noise outside, or your dog barks. Simply open the app on your cell phone and see what your camera is recording. Not only will it grant you time to alert the police of a potential intruder, but you will have a nice clear image of the trespasser, that can be used to identify them, or be used as evidence in court.

What are Best Places For A Home Security Camera?

The best spot to place a camera is above your front entrance door, facing downward, since most burglars enter through the front door. Most will knock or ring the bell first, to see if anyone is home. You can grab a good clear shot of his face and attire easily here. You might also want to have a wide view Dome Camera installed on your landing area as well. This will allow the camera to scan the surrounding area and see if there are other intruders, or their vehicle.

I would also recommend one at the back door as well, for the same reasons. Many burglars will try the front door, then go around to the back of the house, where there is a bit more privacy to break in, or if they get lucky, it might actually be unlocked. Strategically place cameras to scan your driveway. Use a good Bullet Camera to gain a clear view of their vehicle and license plate number.

Add extra cameras to your gate access door, down an alley, and at the garage entrance. Don’t forget you may want to monitor your liquor cabinet or gun cabinet too. Use wide angle Dome Camerasand close upBullet Camerasto get a variety of views of your property. It’s called a Camera System for a reason…...you want different views of different areas, all working together to gain a whole picture. You can always supplement your system with Dummy Cameras or Hidden Camerasfor some of the hard to reach areas you want to monitor.

What Type Of Video Security System Do I Need?

There are basically two types of Security Cameras available. The CCTV and NVR systems. The CCTV are a very cost effective way to monitor your home or business, but certainly aren’t as efficient and do not provide as nice or clear a view as the NVR systems. The CCTV uses outdated analog cables and must be connected to a DVR to record.

I would highly recommend the NVR system, as you will find much higher quality and better images, with a resolution of 1080 p. You will be able to record a vehicle license plate number, even as it is speeding out of your driveway. They also come with an infrared camera, so you can get a better picture of your intruder in night time settings. The NVR systems can also be viewed remotely on your phone, while you are away from your property.

Look for a system that has more TV lines on the camera, for better picture resolution. Look for higher pixels, and the infrared feature. I also like the IP camera systems, so you can monitor your home in real time remotely. It’s a great feature to be able to watch your children, elderly parents, the baby sitter or even your pets. Certainly go with the color system, instead of black and white, if possible. The few extra dollars will be well spent.

Most night vision cameras will be able to record up to 150 feet. Wireless systems while great to be able to install in hard to reach areas outdoors, can not reach as far, especially if there are trees or walls blocking it’s signal. The wireless systems are a good option, but do keep in mind that they do have limits. You will also have to check the battery often on the wireless camera, to ensure it is capable of recording an event.

Think of what kind of elements your camera will be exposed to. If it is mounted outside, it will need a cover of some sort to protect it from rain, hail or snow. Or it may have to me mounted to a secure post, to prevent it from swaying in the wind. A good Dome Camera will be able to sustain the damaging effects of weather, plus are much harder for a thief to tamper with. You may consider using a stronger mounting bracket or harness to secure your camera outside.

Today you see cameras everywhere. You can now see who needs security cameras. They make a great deterrent for theft, insurance fraud and monitoring activity at your home or office. They are installed in hotels, apartment complexes, schools and colleges, in your shopping plazas, work place and most government buildings. Now you even see them on the light signals at your local highway.

We have many Home and Business Surveillance Systems available here at Sands Safety Store. See if you can find one that is right for you.
