Fixed Blade knives aren't as versatile as a folding knife for every day use, but make for a formidable tool to keep on hand. Most fixed blade knives are designed for hunting use. They certainly come in handy while out in the woods as a hunting tool, but also can be used to fend off wild animals. Fixed blade knives fit securely in their holster attached to your belt loop, close to your side.

A fixed blade knife is sturdier and holds up under stress better than folding knives. Fixed blade knives make a great survival tool in emergency situations. You may like to carry one on your next trail walk or hiking trip.

If you are interested in carrying a more discreet personal protection weapon, try a Knife Comb or a Pen Knife. They look like an ordinary every day item, but pull it apart and you have a small but very sharp tool, that can not only be used for self defense, but as a simple letter opener. You never know when a knife may come in handy. Carry one in your purse or pocket. Keep one in your automobile or RV. They also do indeed straighten hair and write a nice letter!

Still thinking on the discreet side, if your local and state laws permit, you may like to carry Throwing Knives, or Throwing Stars. You can practice at home and become a master at throwing the sharp blades from a distance. Why wait for your intruder to get too close to you. If you are attacked, and feel threatened, you may strike from a distance and avoid bodily harm to you or your family.

Throwing Stars and Throwing Knives can also make great hunting weapons. Learn how to throw accurately and hunt small game, like rabbit, squirrel, or fend off rodents, like rats, wood chucks or moles. The uses are endless. Only your lack of imagination will stop you!

Is It Legal To Carry A Knife?

In many states and regions it is indeed legal to carry knives, but you must check all your local, city and state laws, especially if you are travelling. While it may be fine to carry your pocket knife practically anywhere, fixed blade knives may be a different story. Many states have strict rules on the length of the blade that you may carry, or where you may keep your knife concealed in your area, you may find it must be unconcealed in another.

Some knives, like a Bowie knife are considered lethal weapons in many states and are deemed illegal. Some states only consider the knife a weapon and illegal, if it is used in the event of a crime, like brandishing your knife, while attempting to rob a store or bank.

Generally speaking, you will be safe carrying a standard pocket knife, utility knife, or folding knife, as long as you are not using it to commit a crime. Bringing any sharp instrument to an airport, school, judicial building, or many government buildings could be construed as an aggressive act, so be sure to remove them from your pockets before attempting to enter.

Can I Carry A Knife If I Have My CWP?

Again, this is a tricky question. You should check with all state and local laws regarding carrying your knife, even if you have your conceal carry permit. Some states may allow your permit to extend to stun guns, knives and pepper sprays, while other states may not condone the practice. It is best to fully understand any rules in place, so you do not find yourself in a difficult situation. It is best to question and understand the laws before you carry your knife, especially if you are traveling from state to state.

Is There An Age Restriction On Buying Knives?

Most states require that you be at least 18 years of age in order to purchase a knife, unless the blade is 3 inches or less. Check with your local city and states to ensure whether you can legally purchase a knife if you are underage. However a youngster may carry a knife, with their parents permission, but purchasing a knife may be a different story.

Why Do People Need To Carry A Knife?
